Happy Friday everyone! The Fall weather officially decided to show up in my corner of the world but it looks like Summer is holding on for dear life. While the elements battle it out, I am channeling fall by making chili and jamming out to Monster Mash every morning.
In all of this, I’ve been devouring the new Susan Stoker books I downloaded on my Kindle. Susan Stoker is an indie author who specializes in military/protector romances. She writes kick-butt heroines and alpha heroes with a protective streak a mile wide. If you enjoy high-suspense romance with heroes that have a strong moral compass and an even stronger drive to protect their women and their brothers in arms, you need to check out Susan Stoker, like, yesterday.
I’ve had the pleasure of reading in Stoker’s world for several years now so these reviews are for books that fall in the middle of a series but don’t let that stop you from checking out all of Stoker’s books (there are over 100!). Also, if you fall in love with her characters the way I did, there is an entire world of spin-off books published by Stoker’s publishing press, with books being written by approved indie authors. These books can keep you entertained in Susan’s world for months or years!
Each book is written as an interconnected standalone, meaning that each book is the story of a single team member while there is usually an underlying current that runs the entire series and comes to a head near the end. Each series can be read in any order as there are several! One of my favorite parts, though, is that characters cross over to other series periodically, so you may just see some of your favorites reappear throughout.
If any of this sounds like a win to you, go check out Susan Stoker’s website and all of the amazing novels she has just waiting for you to dive in.
So, which book is This Book Beauty reviewing today? Well, the great news is, I’ve got 2 for you!
The Hero by Susan Stoker (Book #3 in The Game of Chance series):

Book #1 in the doubleheader is The Hero, book 3 in Stoker’s Game of Chance series. This series is a little bit different from most of her other work as it is shorter, with only 4 books as opposed to 6 or more, and the main male characters (MMCs) are in their post-military lives. The Hero follows Kendric and Marlowe through foreign and domestic lands with high-stakes situations defining their early relationship. The MMC and FMC take turns saving each other, proving that love doesn’t really understand time.
I gave this one a solid 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and I can’t wait to finish this series up with The Lumberjack, available now in e-book and paperback! This is a complete series so if this sounds like your cup of tea, go check out the Game of Chance series.
And the bonus review!
Deserving Henley (Book #2 in The Refuge Series):

After finishing the first book in this series, Deserving Alaska, I admittedly put off reading Deserving Henley for emotional reasons. It makes sense, seeing as the series is focused on healing wounds physically as well as mentally and emotionally but still, I had to take a breather before starting Deserving Henley. Now, I regret putting off reading this one for as long as I did!
With undeniable chemistry, Tonka and Henley work toward healing each other in this beautiful found family romance. Another 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ review for me!
Go check out Susan Stoker’s reading list on her website: https://www.stokeraces.com/reading-order.html.
Then, maybe head over to Amazon if you’re interested in checking out one of the series as this author has offered several of the first books in her series for $0 on Kindle in the past (in fact, that is how I was introduced to this amazing indie author) 😁
Happy Reading!
