I recently got to read the short and sweet novella, Recipe for Disaster by Ella Hartwood. And let me tell you, HOW CUTE! Though the novella is short by definition, the author packed a significant amount of personality into the characters. I really had a great time reading this cute story.
Without further ado, let’s do this!
This Book Beauty Reviews: Recipe for Disaster by Ella Hartwood

Okay, first of all, how adorable is this cover?! I’m not sure if the author used AI for the cover or not. I do think this cover is really cute either way. That seems to be my word of the blog, “cute”.
Recipe for Disaster tells the story of Cole Bennett, a specialty restaurant owner, and Olivia Blackwood, an investigator for an insurance company. The circumstances that bring them together are unfortunate at best. But that’s where the story begins, as Olivia investigates the destruction of Cole’s restaurant.
Determined to maintain a strictly professional relationship, Olivia struggles to separate her need to protect her job from the desire to pursue the feelings that flame between her and Cole.
For the few pages, Recipe for Disaster packs a lot of character development into the storyline. Though some novellas have trouble with characters feeling underdeveloped, this novella delves into the driving force behind both Cole and Olivia’s backgrounds, providing plenty of information to readers about the characters.
I really enjoyed the depths the author went to to give the characters strong backgrounds. Cole’s history is rooted in history and family tradition, while Olivia’s includes family careers, but also something in her professional background that urges her to do things by the book. The backgrounds and driving forces behind these two characters create tension that both characters want to overcome to pursue whatever desire flows between them.
Sweet. Short. Cute. And Romantic, Recipe for Disaster falls into the 5-Star category for me because it was a simple romantic story that carried me away.
